The hotel’s history

In 1271, Kientzheim became home to a community of Poor Clares. The 11th century convent near the church where the nuns lived over seven hundred years ago is now the Hotel L’Abbaye d’Alspach, which is named after them.

The Schwartz family acquired the building in the 18th century, and ran their wine business there until 1976 when it was transformed into a hotel by Philippe and Annick Schwartz.

The hotel has been refurbished and enlarged several times since then and is now one of the most beautiful establishments in the region.

Annick and Philippe’s daughter, Catherine, now runs the hotel, with support from her husband, Eric, and their children, Louis and Lucien, a third generation of budding hoteliers, who might well welcome you in the future.
